Dear friends and well-wishers of Kampani Capital,
This edition of the CEOs Desk comes from the red-hot Indian summer in more ways
than one. While parts of North and West India are reeling under heat wave conditions,
the annual IPL cricket jamboree has got the fun temperatures soaring across the
country. What started off as a completely different idea for Indian cricket in 2008 has
now become the world’s 2nd most valuable sports league with a per match value of close
to 15 mio USD. The IPL is second only to the NFL which was started way back in
1920 – you can do the math. The summers have also bought alongwith it a fair share of
travel – both within Indian borders as well as overseas vacay jaunts by the well healed
Indians. Travel in May is expected to surpass pre-covid levels which is testament to
the increasing buying power across the entire Indian economic spectrum . The travel
bug also led me to a hidden jewel on the Southern tip of India. While the beaches of
Kovalam in Kerala are second to none, there is an old church about half an hour from
the city of Trivandrum that really took my breath away this summer.It was Mary
Magdalene’s Church in Thumba which now houses the Vikram Sarabhai Space
Museum with live size models of Satellites, Rockets and a lot of other interesting
nuggets of India’s space journey. The journey from Aryabhatta to the modern day
Chandrayaan 3 is a testament to the hardwork of thousands of Indian scientists which
has made India a leader in Space Technology and Exploration. While we all read about
the giant leaps made by India in the Corporate World -both in manufacturing as well
as services we cannot ignore the contribution of science and research in making India
the world’s 5th largest economy.
With that backdrop Sowmya and I would like to thank all our clients and partners who
took time to meet us in Bangalore , Coimbatore and Mumbai over the last few weeks.
We will soon be hiring our first resource in South East Asia which is part of our
continued focus on bring India to the world.
