From the CEOs Desk – February 2025

Dear friends and well-wishers of Kampani Capital,

The Heat is on! While this phrase was made popular by a singer in the 1980s,it cant be more apt to describe the early arrival of the Great Indian Summer. For all the discussions and conferences on greenhouse gases, global warming, climate change done in large air-conditioned halls and hotels over the last 20 years , the Reality is well and truly here. Dare I say, the heat is also leading to a meltdown in the equity markets with all the hot winds blowing from the Trump Corner as well! While the whole world seems to be figuring out way to deal with tariff uncertainities, my early view is that India’s domestic demand and consumption story should be a soothing balm for frayed nerves, although short term pain/readjustment may linger..

Talking of new consumption trends, the talk of the town has been the big consumption bump up at the Kumbh Mela. Some estimates put the number of visitors to Kumbh anywhere in the range of 500 to 600 Million – that’s more than 1/3rd of India’s population ! If you don’t believe me, you can ask the hotel, air and train operators, who are laughing all the way to the bank!! Reminds me of the “Swiftonomics” impact on GDP of countries like Singapore last year..

Sowmya and I have been on whirlwind round of roadshows in Bangalore and Mumbai over the last 3-4 weeks – well timed, as some would say with much more benign weather then, as compared to now.It has been absolutely heartening to see some of the large Family Offices and Fund Managers standing completely unwaivered in their commitment to their current and future investment philosophies with trends like Saas, QSR, Consumer, Semiconductor, Robotics, Deep Tech,Hospitality standing tall amongst the overall pack. Another heartening feature is the continued support from our well-wishers in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, where there seems to be consistently strong appetite for India exposure. We hope to increase our presence there over the next 6 months with visits to Qatar and Saudi Arabia on the horizon.

We look forward to seeing some of our well-wishers in our next round of roadshows in Coimbatore and Pune planned for March. Our commitment to taking the best of India to the world and bringing the best of the world to India remains as strong as ever – despite the word being less flatter than what Thomas Friedman thought in 2005!
